Champaign police investigate shooting incident

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department is seeking the public's help in its investigation into a shooting incident that happened during the early morning hours of April 3.

Champaign police say at about 12:54 a.m., officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1000 block of Northwood Drive.  Upon arriving in the area, officers spoke with a man who said he was walking when a vehicle stopped near him, a person got out of the vehicle, and fired a handgun at him.

Champaign police say officers found several shell casings in the street.  Officers also say that the man was not injured during the shooting, and that there have been no reports of property damage as a result of this incident.

Authorities say the suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20 years old, and stands six feet tall with a thin build.  Police say the suspect was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, and that he was traveling in a light green Chrysler 300.
