Illinois teen facing attempted murder charges held without bond
WHEATON - Northeastern Illinois authorities say a Naperville man who allegedly stabbed two people as they slept in their home is being held without bond.
Officials say a judge has denied bail for Zachary Machnikowski, 18, who faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, as well as residential burglary and home invasion charges. Police say Machnikowski allegedly entered William and Mary Link's home through an unlocked door Tuesday morning, and stabbed them as they slept. Police also say Machnikowski's cell phone was found in the Links' bed.
Authorities say the Links' 16-year-old daughter and Machnikowski attended a party Monday evening, and that another person in attendance told Machnikowski that the daughter had allegedly called him ugly. Police say the attack was allegedly in retaliation for the comment.
