Resolution to dissolve Clearlake fails by 2 votes

CLEARLAKE - A resolution that would dissolve a small Sangamon County village has failed by two votes.

Clearlake residents voted 19-17 to keep the village intact during Tuesday's elections.  The dissolution measure was placed on the ballot because Clearlake officials say the village can't sustain itself due to steadily declining resources.

The voters may have temporarily saved the village through deciding against the measure, however Clearlake trustee Tracy Dorrough says the village may still have to close in the future as a result of funds running out.

If the resolution would have passed, officials say Clearlake services would likely have been taken over by another tax entity.
