Decatur Fire Department responds to Wednesday afternoon fire

DECATUR - The Decatur Fire Department says one home sustained heavy damage in a residential fire Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities say firefighters were dispatched to the 800 block of South Illinois Street at about 1:05 p.m. for a report of a house fire.  Upon arriving, firefighters say they found that the fire was starting to spread from the reported house to other residences.

Fire officials say at one point the entire on-duty staff of the Decatur Fire Department was on scene to help battle the flames.  Officials also say the fire was extinguished at about 2:00 p.m.

Authorities say there were no injuries in relation to this incident, however, the home's residents were relocated.  Fire officials estimate the damage to the reported house and contents to be $38,000, with nearby homes sustaining about $2,500 in damage each.
