New rules force food trucks to keep distance from Springfield restaurants

Posted:
SPRINGFIELD - Springfield officials have approved new rules that require food trucks to keep their distance from brick-and-mortar restaurants.

The Springfield City Council approved the rules earlier this week.  Under the rules, food trucks must be at least 300 feet from restaurants, with the distance being set at 50 feet for food trucks in a designated downtown zone.

Some food truck owners oppose the new rules, arguing that the regulations could prove harmful to their businesses.  However, some brick-and-mortar restaurant owners say they've lost business due to the presence of food trucks.
