Man arrested after homicide in Champaign


 CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department has arrested David Beverly, 28, in connection with the death of Arsenio P. Carter, 27, of Champaign.

Police responded to reports of shots fired near the area of 4th Street and Beardsley Avenue on Friday, April 10.

When they arrived, police learned a gunshot victim had arrived at Presence Hospital. The victim, Arsenio Carter, later died.

Champaign Police investigated the incident through the night and obtained an arrest warrant for David Beverly of Champaign. Champaign Police Detectives, along with the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force, found Beverly just before 2:00 AM on April 11 in the 600 Block of East University. He was arrested without injury or incident. Beverly has been booked on preliminary charges of Firs Degree Murder. Bond has been set at $1,000,000.

Beverly is expected to be formally arraigned on Monday.
