DECATUR - State's Attorney Jay Scott has formed a new task force designed to cut down on gang and gun-related cases in Macon County.
Scott says the Gang and Weapons Prosecution Unit was formed after he found out that more than 20 alleged gang members received prison sentences for gun-related crimes and violence in 2014. The sentences of those found guilty totaled more than 150 years behind bars.
Officials say investigator David Cook will work Assistant State's Attorney Pamela Domash in the new task force to successfully prosecute even more cases. Scott says, "We think with bringing them both in and getting them more training on gang investigation and gang prosecution, that, together with the Decatur Police Department, will really knock down the gun crimes."
