SPRINGFIELD -- Exactly 150 years ago Tuesday night, President Abraham Lincoln was shot during a play at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.
Tuesday begins a month-long series of events to commemorate Lincoln's death in 1865. Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 p.m., the Katie Hall Education Foundation will hold a Lincoln remembrance ceremony at the Lincoln Tomb State Historic Site in Springfield.
History and digital media students at the University of Illinois Springfield will be Tweeting "as-live" coverage of Lincoln's assassination and funeral train. The Twitter account www.twitter.com/AbesLastRide will provide near real-time coverage of events, as if Twitter existed in 1865, plus coverage of Lincoln's train ride from Washington D.C. back to Springfield.
Then Wednesday at Noon, groups will hold a 150th commemoration ceremony of Lincoln's death at Springfield's Union Square Park.
