Springfield police investigate early morning shooting

SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield police are investigating an early morning shooting on the city's northeast side.

Police say officers on patrol around 3:56 a.m. heard several shots coming from the area of 17th and Cass Streets.  Officers checked the area and found a 20-year-old man in the parkway in the 900 Block of S. 17th, lying face down in the grass.

Police say the victim was taken to a hospital with two bullet wounds to his torso. They're not releasing his identity just yet.
