Champaign police investigate shooting incident

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department is seeking the public's help in its investigation into a shooting incident that happened Wednesday evening.

Champaign police say at about 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 900 North Harris.  Just a couple of minutes later, police say they received a report of a gunshot victim in the 700 block of Sherwood Terrace.  Officers identified the victim as a 16-year-old male who had suffered a non-life-threatening injury.

According to authorities, the victim reported that he had gotten off an MTD bus in the area of Beardsley Street and Elm Street when a black male, described as in his 20's and wearing all black-colored clothing and a black-colored hat, began shooting at him.  Champaign police say there is no additional suspect information at this time.
