Western Illinois man found guilty of first-degree murder

QUINCY - A western Illinois man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the December 2014 beating death of another man.

Authorities say David Masterson, 51, was convicted on Wednesday.  Masterson was charged after he allegedly attacked Jason Tournear with a pipe in a Quincy apartment on December 13, 2014.

Masterson says he acted in self defense.  However, prosecutors say that evidence collected at the scene showed that Tournear had been sitting in a chair at the time of the attack.

Masterson is scheduled to be sentenced on June 12.  He could face up to life in prison.
