1 dead in Tuesday evening traffic incident

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign County Coroner has identified a man who died from injuries received in a motor vehicle versus pedestrian incident that happened in Urbana on April 14.

Coroner Duane Northrup says Robert Ash, 79, was pronounced dead at Carle Foundation Hospital on April 15 at 12:36 a.m.  Authorities say Ash was reportedly struck by a vehicle at about 6:23 p.m. while crossing the street near Race Street and Washington Street.  Northrup says Ash died from injuries received in this incident.

Northrup also says that an autopsy will not be performed, but that an inquest may be held at a later date.  Ash's death is under investigation by the Urbana Police Department and the Champaign County Coroner's Office.
