1 dead, 2 injured in two-vehicle collision

EFFINGHAM COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one man has died in a two-vehicle crash in Effingham County on April 16.

Authorities say the crash happened on IL Rt. 33 at Woodbird Drive, on the north side of Effingham, at about 4:45 p.m.  Illinois State Police say their preliminary investigation revealed that an Oldsmobile Intrigue, driven by Joseph Veech, 63, was traveling southeast on IL Rt. 33 when the vehicle crossed through the center lane and into the westbound lanes, colliding with a Buick LeSabre.

Police say after the collision, the Oldsmobile's engine compartment caught on fire, and was subsequently extinguished by emergency responders.  Authorities say Veech was fatally injured in the crash, and that Veech's passenger and the driver of the Buick were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

This crash is currently being investigated by the ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit and the Effingham County Coroner's Office.
