National Foodworks Services purchases former Decatur school building
DECATUR - A new business moving into the old Brush College Elementary School.
Officials say the National Foodworks Services closed their deal to officially purchase the building, formerly known as Brush College Elementary, on April 16. The company is hoping to utilize the facility as a large scale food packaging and production company, and will also be used to give start-up food businesses the opportunity to gain traction through rentable commercial kitchens.
One such partnership is already in place, and involves the culinary arts institute at Richland Community College. Vice President of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Solutions Douglas Brower said this partnership offers "lots of opportunities for the college. For education, for research, for going after additional grants, and are all things that makes sense for the college to be engaged to help facilitate economic development."
The area has never seen a facility like this one, with the ability to function as a multi-use food packaging and producing business. More announcements will develop once more networks are in place.
