Macon County Conservation District hosting River Clean Up, Festival of Spring

DECATUR - The Macon County Conservation District is inviting central Illinois residents to celebrate spring with two special events at the Rock Springs Conservation Area on April 25.

The first event, Sangamon River Clean Up, will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with registration lasting from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m.  Participants are asked to bring work gloves, and are advised to wear appropriate work clothing, as the job could get messy.  Everyone who helps out will receive a free lunch coupon to use at the second event being held, titled the Festival of Spring.

The Festival of Spring will be held from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., and will offer family-friendly activities such as fishing, face painting, a canoe rodeo, crafts, music, and food.  Attendees will also be able to see live birds from the Illinois Raptor Center, visit baby farm animals, and tour the historic Homestead Prairie Farm.

Admission to the festival is free and open to the public, with a small fee charged for the canoe rodeo ($2 per person,) face painting ($1-$3,) and food.  For a complete schedule of events, visit
