APL to perform 100,000th spay/neuter surgery

SPRINGFIELD - Animal Protective League officials say the organization's clinic will perform its 100,000th spay/neuter surgery on April 23.

The APL has provided low-cost, high-quality spay and neuter services to Sangamon County residents for the last nine years, and officials say those efforts have led to a large drop in euthanasia in the area.  According to APL officials, euthanasia numbers at Sangamon County Animal Control have dropped by more than 60 percent, as fewer animals are being born and finding their way into shelters.

Officials also say the Spay/Neuter Clinic has also made a significant impact on animal over-population outside of Sangamon County as well, as APL partners with more than 30 animal control agencies, shelters, and rescue groups throughout central Illinois.
