WAND recognized for "Morning Pledge of Allegiance"
BLOOMINGTON - WAND TV and Mid-Central Illinois Regional Council of Carpenters were honored today for a very special partnership.
Every Monday through Friday morning on WAND, kids honor our country by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
"We felt that WAND and the Carpenter's Council were fulfilling two or our objectives, education and patriotism, in having young people say the pledge every morning," said Pamela Bork of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
WAND news anchor Dawn Sterling and Vice President/Director of Sales Clay Koenig were on hand to accept the honor on behalf of WAND-TV.
Stephen Heckwine accepted on behalf of the Mid-Central Illinois Regional Council of Carpenters.
"I never thought someone would give us an award for doing this, " Heckwine said. "It's good to be noticed when you do something good like this."
The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 and is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women's service organization. It is dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History, and securing the country's future through educating children.
