Red Cross assists families after earthquake

CENTRAL ILLINOIS - The American Red Cross is working hard to help families reconnect after the deadly earthquake in Nepal.

More than 2,500 are confirmed dead after Saturday's massive quake, which measured 7.8 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake triggered an avalanche near Mount Everest and buried part of a base camp packed with foreign climbers.

Anyone with family members in Nepal can visit the Restoring Family Links website ( for information on how to register family members.

The ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross), National Red Cross, and Red Crescent Societies work together around the world to locate people and put them contact with their relatives. The work includes looking for family members, restoring contact, reuniting families, and seeking to clarify the fate of those who remain missing.
