Former Macon County correctional officer sentenced to prison

DECATUR - A former correctional officer at the Macon County Jail who pleaded guilty to official misconduct has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Authorities say Penny Adams, 59, was sentenced in Macon County Court on Monday.  Adams faced official misconduct charges for allegedly giving a cell phone to an inmate.

Prior to being charged, Adams was a 25-year employee of the Macon County Sheriff's Department.  In addition to prison time, she was sentenced to one year of probation.
