Shredding event being held at Urbana Free Library

URBANA - The Urbana Free Library and State Senator Scott Bennett are teaming up to provide paper shredding services to Champaign-Urbana residents on May 2.

The services will be offered from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Urbana Free Library's parking lot.  Officials say the event is being held to promote prevention and raise awareness of consumer fraud and identity theft in central Illinois.

Residents will be able to bring in bank statements, credit card offers, canceled credit cards, canceled checks, pay stubs, old photo IDs, and tax returns that are more than three years old for proper shredding and disposal.  Participants are limited to two boxes of materials per person.
