Champaign County man charged with aggravated arson

LUDLOW - Authorities say one man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to the Ludlow Community Building/Police Department on April 26.

According to Ludlow Police Chief Joe Navarro, a person was seen breaking into the building at about 2:30 a.m.  When Navarro went to arrest the person, he reported seeing a fire start inside the building.  Navarro says he saw this person leave the building and gave chase, but lost sight of the suspect.

Authorities say at about 2:43 a.m., Champaign County Sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle in Ludlow that was believed to be involved with the incident.  Deputies say the lone occupant of the vehicle, identified as Wayne Largent, was found to have several fresh burns on his body.  Largent was taken to Carle Hospital for treatment.

Authorities also say that Largent was arrested at the hospital on April 27 at about 8:45 p.m.  Largent faces a preliminary charge of aggravated arson.
