Illinois failed to administer required tests in 2014-2015 school year

CHICAGO - U.S. Department of Education officials say required statewide science tests were not administered in Illinois schools this year.

Science testing during grades three through 12 is required under federal law.  However, U.S. Department of Education officials say Illinois violated that law by failing to test students during the 2014-2015 school year.

Education Department officials say the Illinois State Board of Education must create a plan and timeline by June 30, and must give the assessments in the 2015-2016 school year.
