Former U of I football staffer found guilty of weapons charge

URBANA - A former University of Illinois football staffer has been convicted of a felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Authorities say jurors found Matt Sinclair, 32, guilty of the charge on Wednesday.  Sinclair was acquitted of two other weapons charges.

Sinclair was charged after an incident on November 23, 2013, in which he and two other Illini staffers were returning from a game against Purdue.  The charges alleged that Sinclair was in possession of a gun without a concealed carry license.

Sinclair is scheduled to be sentenced on June 11.
