Champaign police make arrest in armed robbery cases

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department has announced that a central Illinois man has been arrested in connection with a series of armed robberies that happened in 2014.

Champaign police say they investigated multiple armed robberies in the area of Country Brook Apartment Complex between September 2014 and November 2014.  During each of the robberies, the suspect(s) brandished a firearm and demanded cash from the victim(s).  

Authorities say investigators were able to identify one of the suspect(s) as Joseph Hart, 27, and were able to link him to each of the robberies.  An arrest warrant for Hart was issued on February 10, 2015.

Authorities say at about 7:01 p.m. on April 30, officers from the Champaign Police Department and the United States Marshal Service arrested Joseph Hart at a home in the 1100 block of Saint Andrews Circle in Rantoul.  Hart faces a preliminary charge of armed robbery.  He remains in custody on $500,000 bond.
