Military funeral planned for World War II Marine's remains

WATSEKA - The recently-discovered remains of an Illinois man who died in a World War II battle will be laid to rest in Watseka.

Officials say the the remains and dog tags of Watseka native Jack Redman were found on the Tarawa Atoll in the Gilbert Islands.  The deceased's identity was confirmed through a DNA sample provided by his 86-year-old brother, Merrill Redman.

Redman's remains will be laid to rest during a planned military funeral.  Merrill Redman says he's happy to finally have his brother's remains return home.
