Macon County fireworks permit applications available

Posted:
MACON COUNTY - The Macon County Clerk's Office has announced that fireworks permits for locations outside of incorporated areas of Macon County are now available.

Macon County Clerk Steve Bean says permit applications can be found in room 104 at 141 South Main Street in Decatur.  The fee for a fireworks permit is $10, and the applicant show show proof of passing the Consumer Fireworks Test and proof of insurance in a sum greater than $1 million.

Bean also says that all permits must be approved by the local fire protection district chief for the location where the fireworks will be displayed, and that the permit isn't valid until it's returned to the County Clerk's Office for a signature and county seal.

Permit applications for displays to be held on July 4 will be accepted until June 19.  For any other date, the permit must be obtained at least 15 days prior to the date of the display.
