Colbert Lands Close to Home, Will Play at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, VA (ODU Athletics) — Old Dominion University head men's basketball coach Jeff Jones announced Tuesday that Austin Colbert, a 6-9, 210 pound forward (Chesapeake, VA.) from the University of Illinois, will transfer to ODU and will be eligible for the 2016-17 season as a junior.

“We are excited that Austin has decided to return home to continue his career,” said Jones. “He is a talented young man with a tremendous upside. We can't wait to begin working with him.”

In two seasons, Colbert averaged 1.8 points per game, and 1.5 rebounds per game while shooting .527 from the floor. He scored a career high six points against Indiana State and hauled down seven rebounds against Iowa.

Colbert averaged 12.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.5 blocks as a senior, helping lead Gill St. Bernard's to the New Jersey Non-Public South B semifinals. He was selected to compete in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game at Barclay's Center and competed in the 2012 Nike Global Challenge.

He is the son of James and Brenda Colbert.
