Grain Belt Express discussions to begin next week

PANA - A proposed electricity transmission line that could be built through Illinois will be discussed at several public meetings throughout the state over the next week.

Clean Line Energy Partners, a Texas-based company, is aiming to build the Grain Belt Express, a transmission line designed to bring energy from Kansas to an existing power grid in Indiana.  Officials say the company is requesting that the transmission line be built through Illinois.  Impacted counties include Christian, Clark, Cumberland, Greene, Macoupin, Montgomery, Pike, Scott, and Shelby Counties.

In order to provide more information about the line, and to collect public opinions on it, officials say public meetings will be held in several communities, including Greenup, Nokomis, Pana, and Strasburg.  A final decision on the transmission line is expected to come from the Illinois Commerce Commission by November.
