Central Illinois residents encouraged to "Stamp Out Hunger"

MACON COUNTY - The National Association of Letter Carriers is encouraging central Illinois residents to help fight hunger by participating in their 23rd annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

Officials say Decatur residents can participate by leaving a non-perishable food donation in a bag by their mailbox on May 9.  The donation will be picked up by their letter carrier.  Mt. Zion and Forsyth residents can also participate in this food drive by dropping off non-perishable food donations at their respective public libraries.

NALC officials also say that more than 150 volunteers are needed to aid letter carrier in picking up, sorting, and distributing food donations.  If you wish to volunteer, you may report to the large pavilion at Fairview Park, Nelson Park, or the parking lot of the BCTGM Union Hall between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Officials say more than 78 million pounds of food were collected during last year's national food drive.
