Macon County sees decrease in number of teen births in 2014

DECATUR - Macon County Teen Health Coalition officials say the number of births to teenage mothers in the county has seen a significant decrease in 2014.

Officials say teen births accounted for nine percent of all births in Macon County in 2014, compared to 13 percent in 2012.  Coalition members say the drop could be attributed to several reasons, including the use of long-lasting birth control methods.

The Macon County Teen Health Coalition also sponsors a program that helps girls make positive decisions, titled Girls Empowered to Make Successes.
