State officials say Illinois saw increase in visitors in 2014

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity officials say the state saw more domestic visitors in 2014 than any other year.

According to officials, Illinois had more than 107 million domestic travelers in 2014, a 3.8 percent increase over 2013's number.  Officials also say revenue from the state's hotel-motel tax also saw an increase as a result of the increase in visitors, with more than $250 million being collected.

Leisure travel numbers also saw improvement, as day trips and overnight leisure travel increased by 4.3 percent from 2013 to 2014.
