Athletes Racing Past Adversity

DECATUR- The Area Ten's Special Olympics Spring Games showcased track and field  skills of many athletes.

More than 250 participated and around half of the athletes will qualify to compete at the state competition in June.

One coach shared her excitement as her team, the Decatur Dreamcatchers, took gold in the 4 X 100 relay. 

Paula Boys said, " It's absolutely wonderful to see these kids compete. Whether they win or lose their champions to me."

Parents also shared their reaction to what events like this mean for their  athletes overcoming any disability they have.

Rick Welch said, " It gives them meaning and it gives them hope. And those things are really important to all of us."

Defying handicaps these athletes displayed tenacity and drive while giving it their all on the field.
