1 seriously injured in crash involving 3 truck-tractor semi-trailers

SANGAMON COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one man was seriously injured in a crash that involved three truck-tractor semi-trailers on Interstate 55 on May 10.

Authorities say the crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-55 near mile post 135.  According to the preliminary investigation, two truck-tractors were slowing down for posted construction zone speed signs, while a third truck-tractor that was traveling behind the other two did not slow down.

Police say the truck-tractor that did not slow down struck the rear of one of the other truck-tractors, leading to that vehicle colliding with the third.  One of the drivers, a 37-year-old man from Arizona, was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.  The other two drivers will taken to another local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities say that northbound lanes on I-55 were closed for about 4 hours.  Police say this incident is still under investigation, and that charges are pending the outcome of this investigation.
