Decatur outdoor emergency warning sirens getting upgrades

DECATUR - Decatur officials say crews will begin to replace radio controls for the city's 20 outdoor emergency warning sirens beginning on May 12.

City officials say crews will work on one siren at a time, and that all other sirens will remain operational while each siren is being upgraded.  After the upgrade is installed, each siren will be tested by turning the siren on and off in three short bursts.  During the test, a short burst of sound no more than 15 seconds long will be heard.

Officials also say that no upgrades will occur during possible severe weather events.  The upgrades are expected to be completed by May 29.
