URBANA - A man accused of killing University of Illinois student Vicente Mundo has pleaded guilty to first degree murder.
Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court, Reginald Scott, 21, admitted to shooting Vicente Mundo, 20. As part of a plea agreement, State's Attorney Julia Rietz agreed to recommend a sentence of no more than 60 years when Scott is sentenced July 1. Police say Mundo left home after 6:00 PM on January 25 and said he would be home shortly. He went to a friend's apartment and arrived with a backpack with cannabis. He received a phone call, and told the caller to meet him by his car. Two days later, Mundo was reported missing.
Mundo's body was found in a ditch in rural Tolono on January 31. Scott's co-defendant, Daniel Gonzalez, is expected to be back in court next month.
