Champaign police seeking public's help in finding Urbana man

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating an Urbana man who is wanted for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Champaign police say at about 1:35 p.m. on May 6, investigators saw an individual believed to be wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant walking in the 1100 block of North State Street.  When investigators attempted to speak with the individual, later identified as Marquis Jones, 18, Jones ran from the area.

Authorities say Jones removed a revolver from his waistband during the foot pursuit, and discarded the weapon along the flight path.  Although Jones was able to evade officers, they were able to recover the weapon, which was later determined to be stolen.

An arrest warrant was issued for Marquis Jones on May 7.  Champaign police also say Jones is wanted on an Illinois Department of Corrections Patrol Violation warrant under the alias of Donnie Caldwell.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of Jones, you are urged to call the Champaign Police Investigations Division at (217) 351-4545 or Crime Stoppers at (217) 373-8477.
