Urbana teen pleads guilty to aggravated discharge of a firearm

CHAMPAIGN - Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz has announced that a central Illinois teen has pleaded guilty to shooting a firearm at an Urbana home on March 20, 2015.

Authorities say Isaiah Garrett, 17, was charged with the aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the shooting of a home in the 1200 block of West Beslin in Urbana.  Officers say witnesses reported seeing Garrett riding in a vehicle before allegedly opening fire on the residence.

Police say officers found the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting, and that Garrett was a passenger in that vehicle.  Officers also say they found a loaded .38 caliber revolver in the vehicle's trunk, and that spent .38 caliber casings were found inside of a sock in a holding cell after Garrett was removed from the cell.

Rietz says Garrett's case was transferred from juvenile court to adult court, and that the sentencing hearing has been scheduled to take place on June 17.  Garrett remains in custody on $100,000 bond.  He faces between four and 10 years in prison.
