“We've been waiting for this a long time,” Roy Pyers, co-chair of Springfield's PrideFest, told WAND News. “One of the reasons people really enjoy the festival is because it is very family oriented.”
This is the fifth year for the event. More than 60 vendors are taking part in the event and live entertainment will be provided on two stages. There is a dedicated teen's area and a dedicated kid's area.
PrideFest will be held from noon until 10 PM on Capitol Avenue between 4th and 6th streets in downtown Springfield.
Although Pridefest is one of the largest LGBT festivals in central Illinois, organizers emphasize the day is meant to celebrate all of humankind's differences.
