Red Cross volunteers respond to Springfield home fire

SPRINGFIELD - American Red Cross officials say volunteers responded to a home fire in Springfield on May 18.

Officials say the fire happened at a home in the 1000 block of South Third Street, and that volunteers are ensuring that the two adults and three children affected by this fire have a safe place to stay, food, clothing, and emotional support.  Officials also say the volunteers that were on the scene were members of a local Disaster Action Team.

The American Red Cross suggests that families install a smoke alarm in their homes, and that families create a fire escape plan.  For more information on fire safety and preparedness, visit
