CHAMPAIGN - Champaign officials are accepting applications from residents who are interested in filling the vacant District 1 Council office.

Applications must be submitted to the Champaign Mayor's Office by 12:00 p.m. on June 3, 2015.  Submitted applications will be reviewed by the Champaign City Council, and qualified applicants will be interviewed during a study session meeting on June 9.  The council is expected to fill the vacancy during a meeting on June 16.

Officials say qualified applicants must be a resident of District 1, have resided in Champaign for at one year, be a qualified elector, be current in tax or debt payments to the city, and not have been convicted of infamous and certain other crimes.  The appointed member will fill the seat until the 2017 Consolidated Election.
