Walking For Wounded Warriors

DECATUR- Walking for the wounded to make sure they are not forgotten.

In it's 4th year the Wounded Warrior Walk put on by Dale's Southlake Pharmacy, Colee's Corner and Ron Stephens has raised more than $100,000 for the national Wounded Warrior Project.

Each year Ron walks one mile per $100 donation. This year instead of just walking the organization has teamed up with pharmacies from across the state and a group of them from the Dekalb area will ride their bikes with Ron as he treks from Northern Illinois to Decatur.  Ron will also walk down in Southern Illinois as well.

A veteran himself Ron Stephens said, "Soldiers don't ask for much. They don't come home from the war asking well hey what do you got for me. And when they don't come home they only ask for one thing and that thing is don't forget me."

Creating the idea after attending a workshop in Vegas, Pharmacist Erica Colee said, "To think that sitting on the plane on the way home I wanna raise a couple thousand dollars and take it back to cardinal health who matches all of it and we've raised $120,000 in three years."

For every dollar given it is matched and doubled by Cardinal Pharmacies.

This year the walk steps off at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 26 at Dale's Southlake Pharmacy.
