One dead in two-vehicle crash

CHRISTIAN COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person died in a two-vehicle crash in Christian County last week.

Authorities say the crash happened on May 22 at about 10:48 a.m. on U.S. Route 51, about one-tenth of a mile north of County Road 1600N.  According to the preliminary investigation, a truck-tractor semi-trailer pulled onto U.S. Route 51 from Christian County Road 1600N and began to travel northbound.  Police say the truck-tractor began to accelerate, but was struck from behind by a Chrysler 300, which then veered off the right side of the roadway.

Authorities say the driver of the Chrysler, an 81-year-old Decatur man, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.  The Illinois State Police continue to investigate this incident.
