Lake Shelbyville hosting kids fishing tournament

LAKE SHELBYVILLE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is inviting children ages 12 and under to participate in a fishing tournament on June 6, 2015.

The tournament will be held at Lake Shelbyville's Opossum Creek Recreation Area, at the pond near the entrance to the park.  The tournament will be divided into several age groups, with prizes being awarded for biggest fish, most fish, and smallest fish caught.  Participants ages six and under will need to register or check-in by 8:30 a.m., and will fish from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m.  Participants ages seven through 12 will need to check-in or register by 9:30 a.m., and will fish from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Participants must bring their own fishing equipment, and will need to wear a life jacket with adult supervision.  The tournament will be limited to bank fishing only.  This event is free and open to the public.  To register, call (217) 774-3951, extension 2.
