Duchene Tosses Complete Game as Illini Win NCAA Opener, 10-3
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- David Kerian hit a three-run homer and Kevin Duchene pitched his first complete game of the season to lead Illinois past Ohio 10-3 in the first round of the Champaign Regional on Friday night.
Illinois (48-8) will face Notre Dame on Saturday night, while Ohio (36-20) meets Wright State in an elimination game.
Duchene (11-1) struggled with his command at times, but was helped by his defense, which turned two double plays and made several sparkling catches. Duchene scattered seven hits on 114 pitches, striking out one and walking three.
Jake Miller (6-4) took the loss for the Bobcats, who got a home run from John Adryan.
The Illini, the No. 6 national seed, won their 17th consecutive home game, the longest current streak in the NCAA. Illinois, 23-2 at Illinois Field this season, posted a Big Ten-record 27-game winning streak from March 30 to May 20.
