Click it or Ticket nets arrests, citations

DECATUR – The annual “Click it or Ticket” campaign, which was held from May 11-25, netted a number of citations and arrests for the Decatur Police Department.

The Decatur Police Department says although the annual campaign is over in Decatur, drivers will be held accountable if they're caught not wearing a seat belt.

“Our officers are out all year long,” said Sgt. Chris Peters. “If you or your passengers, in the front seat and back seat, are caught not wearing a seat belt, day or night, you will be cited for the safety violation,” he said.

During the mobilization, Decatur Police Department issued:

28 seat belt citations

3 child safety seat citations

2 DUI arrests

1 felony arrests

2 suspended/revoked licenses

18 uninsured motorists

8 speeding citations

In Illinois, children are required to be in a car seat or booster seat until at least age 8 and all children younger than 13 should ride in the back seat.
