Paxton police investigate theft

PAXTON - The Paxton Police Department is seeking the public's help in their investigation into a theft that happened on May 27, 2015.

Paxton police say officers responded to a report of a theft at the Casey's General Store, located in the 500 block of South Market Street, during the evening hours of May 27.  Upon arriving, officers learned from an employee working at the time of the incident that money had been taken from a safe located inside the store.

Authorities say the employee reported that the safe was opened to remove cash to place into the drawer when a male entered the store with a green plastic cup.  The employee was then asked by the male to rinse out the cup he was carrying, and to fill it with fresh water and ice.  Officers say the employee did so, and upon returning the cup to the man, she noticed that the safe's door had been moved.  Authorities say the man left the store without paying for the water and ice, and the employee found that $45 in dimes were now missing from the safe.

Paxton police say during their investigation they learned that the man had been accompanied by a woman.  Authorities say surveillance video shows both individuals inside the store.  We have included still images of surveillance video taken in this article.

If you can identify either of these individuals, or if you have any more information about this crime, you are asked to call Ford County Crime Stoppers at 217-784-4173.
