Red Cross encouraging central Illinois residents to donate blood

Posted:
CENTRAL ILLINOIS - American Red Cross officials are encouraging central Illinois residents to participate in blood drives throughout June.

According to Red Cross officials, donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, A negative, and B negative.  Officials also say the Red Cross must collect 15,000 blood donations each day to meet the needs of patients throughout the nation.

In order to donate, you must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in generally good health.  Donors will also need a blood donor card or driver's license, or two other forms of identification to check-in.  To make an appointment, call (800) 733-2767 or visit redcrossblood.org.
