Lincoln City Council selects new mayor

LINCOLN - The Lincoln City Council selected a new mayor during their regularly scheduled meeting on June 1.

Officials say Scott Cooper was chosen to serve out the remainder of former Mayor Keith Snyder's term, which ends April 30, 2017.  Cooper's appointment is effective June 1, 2015.

Prior to being selected, Cooper worked for the Illinois Department of Corrections for 31 years, retiring as a parole commander for the District 3 Sex Offender unit in 2015.  Cooper also served in the Illinois National Guard for 21 years, as well as a Lincoln Planning Commission member and Alderman of Ward 1.

Cooper says he was "surprised and humbled" when he was selected to become mayor of Lincoln.  He will begin meeting with Lincoln administrator and department heads this week.
