Illinois State Police release May statistics

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois State Police say troopers in District 9 responded to more than 2,000 field incidents and more than 300 calls for service during the month of May.

According to Illinois State Police District Nine Commander Scott Compton, 1,611 citations and 989 written warnings were given to motorists, including 225 seat belt citations, 896 speeding citations, 221 written warnings for speeding, 27 DUIs, 16 child restraint citations, and 98 criminal arrests.  

Additionally, Compton says troopers assisted 308 motorists, investigated 130 traffic crashes, and conducted 470 motor carrier inspections.  Compton also says there were two fatal traffic crashes in May, resulting in two deaths.  Authorities say 762 citations and 110 written warnings for speeding, DUI, failure to wear a seat belt, and distracted driving, also known as the violations most associated with fatal traffic crashes.
