Lincoln Presidential Library Recreates Mary Lincoln’s Strawberry Socials

SPRINGFIELD – The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is bringing Mary Lincoln's strawberry parties back to life.

Museum patrons will be able to experience the music, fashion, 19th century manners and food of Mary Lincoln's lifetime. The event mimics parties the first lady would have to progress her husband's political career. This will include an appearance by Mary Lincoln portrayed by historic interpreter Pam Brown.

Other educators will join Brown in educating visitors on Mary Lincoln's life.

History educator Charla Byers will be discussing clothing of the period. Carol Manning, who serves as the education coordinator for the library, will explain manners from Mary Lincoln's time. Sheila Walk, from the Springfield Area Arts Council, will speak about Mary's love of poetry.

This event offers a glimpse into the personal life of the Lincolns and Mary's influence on her husband.

Mary Lincoln's strawberry social takes places on Thursday, June 11, 2015, at 6:30 PM. Tickets can be purchased at by clicking “special event reservations.” They can also be purchased by calling the museum at 217-558-8934.
